Discussing green transition challenges with the EU Commission in Malta

AP's Director of Practice Jacques Borg Barthet was one of a number of green transition stakeholders invited by the European Commission Representation in Malta to a fact-finding meeting, to provide expert views on Malta’s progress in the green transition and on current bottlenecks in energy, climate and transport. The meeting, which took place on the 9th November, emphasised the need for coherent and committed governance for Malta to overcome a number of long-term challenges which are becoming increasingly consolidated. Amongst the key areas of focus in the discussion were (i) the environmental costs and impacts of widescale building redevelopment, (ii) the need for suitable environments for walking, cycling and other forms of micro-mobility, (iii) the impacts of ongoing energy subsidies on energy demand culture and (iv) the need for greater investment in retrofitting to reduce building energy demands.
