David Felice interviewed for Architecture & Design’s June 2026 edition

AP Valletta’s managing partner, David Felice, sat down with Architecture & Design for its June 2026 edition to reflect on his lifelong engagement with Valletta and his experience as one of the founding partners of AP Valletta.

At the heart of the conversation is a principle that has consistently informed David’s approach to architecture: working with what already exists is not a constraint, but a generative act. By engaging with the layers of history and memory embedded within a place, architecture can allow the past to inform the future.

Throughout the interview, David speaks about architecture as a civic responsibility; one shaped by research and an understanding that buildings cannot be separated from the histories and stories that produce them.

Reflecting on the evolution of AP Valletta, David discusses the practice’s longstanding commitment to bringing together research, application, technical knowledge and interdisciplinary thinking.

“Our team’s vision was shaped by a shared belief that architecture requires a fusion of research and application and an interest in interdisciplinarity, not merely technical competence.

In 2025, AP Valletta welcomed seven new leaders, each with a long history with the firm and each bringing distinct strengths. The practice has grown into something more complex and more layered than we could have imagined, a collective with a genuinely plural intelligence. But the founding conviction remains: that architecture must be rigorous, resolute, and in constant dialogue with the human condition.”
