AP Valletta will participate in the first edition of designMT themed "Where tradition meets innovation’’, with the installation "The Myth of Abundance": adapting the structure of the cabinet of curiosities both as a conceptual framework and as an actual display, the project will be exhibiting a multidimensional journey through historical artifacts, natural specimens, and cultural symbols that reveal the island’s complex relationship with its most precious resource, water.
Originally exhibited at the Time Space Existence exhibition during the Venice Architecture Biennale (2016), the Cabinet had been developed as a platform on which objects and images from AP’s memory were brought into new spatial and temporal proximity. The proposed adaptation of the cabinet for "The Myth of Abundance" translates the mythical abundance into a tangible and potentially interactive experience, while testing the reuse of a structure which has successfully contributed to AP’s research.
This installation will also create an opportunity to showcase and re-evaluate some of AP’s unrealised projects, such as the regeneration
plan for Qormi’s Wied is-Sewda, tackling the scarcity and management of water as a crucial element of a truly sustainable approach to the built environment.
DesignMT will inaugurate on Monday 30th September with a vernissage at the Fortress Builders. The exhibition will run from 30 September to 5 October 2024 at Auberge d’Aragon in Valletta.
The event is organised by the Malta Crafts Foundation in collaboration with the Golden Glitch and it is supported by the Arts Council Malta, the Valletta Cultural Agency, Spazju Kreattiv and the Kamra tal-Periti.
