AP Valletta Celebrates its 35th Anniversary

Founded in 1991 by David Felice and Konrad Buhagiar, AP Valletta began as more than a firm; its original name, Architecture Project, was in itself a manifesto declaring the need for a project that could lift Maltese architecture out of its protracted lethargy. The ‘project’, therefore, became the re-ignition of architecture as a catalyst for cultural discourse and critical thinking. AP set out to engage deeply with the genius loci; an intention that holds firm 35 years on. As the firm reaches this milestone, the focus remains not merely on ‘legacy,’ but on a continued pursuit of excellence and rigour.

It is no coincidence that the firm’s anniversary shares a date with the foundation of Valletta on March 28th, 1566. Just as the city rose from a need for preservation, AP was born from a desire to conserve Malta’s rich heritage and the potential of places with timelessness at their core. With nearly half a millennium’s lifespan, Valletta remains a laboratory and a fertile ground of knowledge regarding architecture, and heritage.

Gratitude is extended to the partners, past and current team members, clients, and collaborators who have been an integral part of AP’s journey for over three decades.
