Set in the heart of a residential neighbourhood in Attard, this project involved the conversion of a 1990s house and its redesign and adaptation. Much of the existing building structure was retained to economise on cost and material waste, but the interior and external fabric were reconfigured to reflect its contemporary use as well as to embed the house within the landscape of its expansive back garden.

The new design follows an orthogonal geometry, defined by an intersection of horizontal and vertical lines that cut through the volume of the residence. Interior and exterior spaces are interwoven so that the line of sight from the historic entrance through the planted courtyard sets up the view of the garden beyond. The garden and courtyard frame light, volume and orientation for the reconfigured home.

A neutral, natural palette creates serene internal volumes, allowing the colours of the garden to take centre stage.
