The Priory of Navarre's design philosophy sought to blend the theatre’s essence with its own identity. Introducing new functions such as a booking office, exhibition spaces, and a café, the additions respect the existing structure while providing an unexpected journey. The project presents a fully renovated space that maintains originality and timelessness. Guided by reverence for the building's history, commitment to functional innovation, and a vision for visually striking spaces, the intervention revitalizes the building for contemporary use while honouring its rich past.

Located in the village of Tarxien, Malta, a timeless renovation project is underway, breathing new life into a historic townhouse while honoring its rich heritage. With a commitment to maximum respect for the pre-existing structures and a deep appreciation for the link between the building and its surroundings, this intervention seeks to preserve the essence of the past while embracing the demands of modern living.

‘Follow the water’ is a reaction to the imminent water crisis that Malta and many other countries have to urgently tackle. By working with the existing water element in the square and re-interpreting its grid in a playful yet sober manner, the proposal expresses the transformative and communicative power of design while responding to the radical social and environmental changes at the core of the brief.

As the name suggests - Filoxiny comes from the Greek word ‘philoxenia’ which literally translates as ‘friend to a stranger’ and is more generally linked to the concept of ‘generosity of spirit’ - the project revolves around the need to re-imagine spaces with generosity and unpretentiousness, putting the needs of the residents first. It’s no coincidence that we chose an image from Kaurismaki’s “A Man Without a Past” for the concept description. We wanted the proposal to be as gentle, quirky and compassionate as the film, engaging with people going through a difficult phase of their life without any prevarication.

The Coach House is a Grade 1 Scheduled Property located in the heart of the village of Balzan, within the Urban Conservation Area. Historically, the property is thought to have primarily served as a service building intrinsically connected to the adjacent Palazzo Bosio.

The brief aimed at the insertion of this 1930s hotel within the rehabilitation project for the area spanning between City Gate, the ex-bus terminus and Floriana ex-parade ground.

AP is working on the rehabilitation and extension of the most important museum on the island. Besides restoring and reusing the neglected and underutilised historical spaces annexed to the Cathedral, we designed an extension like a monumental reliquary to house a very precious set of tapestries.

Villa Castro is located in the south-east of the town of Naxxar, in the centre of the island of Malta. Its location on the perimeter of an Urban Conservation Area has led to the drastic modification of the original setting of the villa, recent building developments destroying irreversibly its original context.

As Associate Architects with Renzo Piano Building Workshop, AP took care of the regeneration project of the main entrance of Valletta: the gate, the new house of Parliament and the restoration of the ruins of the old Opera House, which was turned into an open air theatre.

Tools, Trades and Traditions in the historical Palazzo de Piro (Mdina) is a unique museum in Malta presenting a single private collection of circa 2,000 objects and tools related to an array of trades.

A disused ground floor garage, excavated for a public lounge – a retrospection – a reinterpretation of the bold decor, of the sculptural qualities, the solids and voids, which characterise Balluta Buildings. 

The project for the restoration of an historic building in the heart of the Siculo-Norman fortified hill-top city of Mdina, deals primarily with the refurbishment of the building to create a charming hotel with seventeen suites overlooking the Maltese landscape.

The insertion of a new Cruise Passenger Terminal at the foot of the baroque Pinto Stores, develops on the genus loci of Valletta, to add yet another layer to the rich historic stratification of the Grand Harbour.

The Malta Stock Exchange operates today from 19th century Garrison chapel, built at the time of the Crimean War as a school and place of worship for the allied troops passing through Malta on their way to battle.

This pavilion-like structure, that houses an extension to the existing kitchen in an 18th century house, is designed like an over-scale porch.

Built in the early 18th Century, Casa Perellos was the intimate, yet stately country residence of the Grand Master Ramon Perellos y Rocafull (1697 – 1720).

The intervention on the tower is an insertion that is independent of the existing old structure thus avoiding any scars on the historic fabric.
