The Myth of Abundance

AP Valletta participated in the first edition of designMT themed "Where tradition meets innovation’’, with the installation "The Myth of Abundance": adapting the structure of the cabinet of curiosities both as a conceptual framework and as an actual display, the project exhibited a multidimensional journey through historical artifacts, natural specimens, and cultural symbols that reveal the island’s complex relationship with its most precious resource, water.

Filoxiny House

As the name suggests - Filoxiny comes from the Greek word ‘philoxenia’ which literally translates as ‘friend to a stranger’ and is more generally linked to the concept of ‘generosity of spirit’ - the project revolves around the need to re-imagine spaces with generosity and unpretentiousness, putting the needs of the residents first. It’s no coincidence that we chose an image from Kaurismaki’s “A Man Without a Past” for the concept description. We wanted the proposal to be as gentle, quirky and compassionate as the film, engaging with people going through a difficult phase of their life without any prevarication.

This is the story of a Palazzo in Valletta. Among its stunning ruins there are many hidden ‘treasures’, buried in dust and trash. Thanks to its new owners, the building will finally get the chance to rise from its own ashes.
